Create an Information Technology World with Originality: Interview with Myerstone Technology Chairwoman Phyllis Chou

Before the seed of information technology marketing was planted in the soil of Taiwan 13 years ago, Phyllis Chou had wished this business to germinate and root in this land.

Walking in building A of the Kaohsiung Software Park, one will experience a neat architectural atmosphere. It is admirable, just like most people’s first impression of Myerstone Technology Chairwoman Phyllis Chou. Born in 1968, Chou’s plunge into the information technology industry is not accidental. Her application of marketing management that she learnedfrom abroad to the information technology industry is intriguing. Chou smiled and recalled that 10 years ago, she didn’t know how to write programs; she constantly pondered innovations and how to streamline procedures to enhance efficiency. Therefore she explored the logic andorganization of applying information from a user’s point of view and needs. After adding creative planning, the applications that she created allow users to use Website paths or access information more freely and easily. The current wireless tour guide system used in the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium originated from her ideas.

When asked why Chou chose to set up her company in Kaohsiung Software Park, she said the park is where the technology industry is clustered. Through industry aggregation, Myerstone can work with other companies and jointly create higher output value. Various incentives and interest subsidies offered by the Kaohsiung City Government made her feel comfortable in setting up her office here and expanding her business step by step. Facing the globalization trend, Chou, who understands the development of the information technology industry well, not only sensed the changes in the environment, but also foresaw the in-depth development of value-added mobile service. She devoted her efforts to setting up a R&D center in the software park, hoping Taiwan would blossom in this area, revealing remarkable and foresighted results so that Taiwan’s learning, communication, gaming and community services would meet international standards.

Chou taught her children to value attitude above grades. She uses the same approach when leading her employees in the battlefield of the information industry. Self-discipline is a simple and clear rule in the office. The drive for efficiency is also reflected in their skills in drafting project proposals. Chou smiled and said that Myerstone is merely a small company. But what she calls a small company competes with big corporations all the time. Myerstone’s bright performance in drafting project proposals for local and central governments makes its bigger opponents afraid to underestimate it. Myerstone’s performance has also amazed global visitors when participating in overseas exhibitions. But Chou still said humbly “Myerstone is a small company.”

Using "don’t let my passion fade" to boost her morale, Chou now sees a bright spot in information technology applications shed by intelligent buildings and environment. We see her eyes gleaming with creativity that can only come from marketing professionals. We expect her to reach another peak of her career.
